Cindynics (from the Greek word kindunos which means danger) is a new field of knowlegde, dealing with all aspects of the problem (scientific, cultural, social and legal) as they affect individuals and organizations.
The hazard concept is the term habitually used by specialists but the research field described is open.
This new field, exssentially interdisciplinary in character, is now known as the Sciences of Danger.
The European Cindynics Institute was created in january 1990. The basic concepts emmerged during the Symposium on Tchnological Risks, held in UNESCO in Paris, in 1987.
More than 1,500 international experts from virtually every field attended this symposium.
They proposed the creation of the European Cindynics Institute in order to develop permanent interdisciplinary cooperation on the science of danger.
The European Cindynics Institute draws upon the expertise of specialists (engineers, lawyers, teachers, physicians, journalists to nae only a few) working in different fields (banking, defense, health, indistry, insurance and the public sector).
The European Cindynics Institute has created an intellectual environment on order to encourage dialogue and progress in the field of danger, whatever its origin ; in industry, natural phenomena, society at large, the economy or the home.
